Distinction & First Class Marks Calculator
Find the whole marks needed for your chosen distinction or first-class percentage, including the gap from your current score.
How to use this calculator
Enter the percentage printed in your own programme rules. The default 75% is an example, not a universal distinction rule. This calculator checks a numeric target only; attempt limits, backlogs, credit rules and separate subject minimums can affect the official award.
Formula and worked example
Required whole marks = ceiling(total marks × target percentage ÷ 100). Gap = max(0, required marks − scored marks).
For a chosen 75% target out of 500, you need 375 marks. With 313 scored, the gap is 62 marks.
What this result does and does not tell you
The calculation uses only the numbers you enter. It does not retrieve institutional rules, predict your actual marks or replace your official transcript. Use the unrounded value when deciding whether a target is met, and check your institution’s rounding and pass requirements.
Does this calculator save my marks?
The new calculator processes inputs in your browser and does not send or save your marks. Reloading the page restores the example values.
