Attendance calculator

Most Indian professional colleges detain students below 75% attendance, and the number is computed on classes held, not classes scheduled. If your department cancelled four lectures, those four never enter the denominator — which is why the figure on the notice board rarely matches the one you calculated at home.

The percentage on its own is not useful. What you need is the remedy: how many consecutive classes you must now attend to cross the line, or how many you can still skip and stay above it. Both are integers, because you cannot attend two-thirds of a lecture. This calculator rounds the "classes needed" figure up and the "classes you can miss" figure down, which is the direction that keeps you safe.

Attendance is normally counted per subject, not per semester, so a single subject can detain you while your overall figure looks comfortable. Run each subject separately. If your college weights practicals, labs or tutorials differently from theory, calculate those blocks separately too.

One caveat worth knowing: medical leave, sport and cultural representation, and NSS or NCC duty are usually condonable up to a stated ceiling — often 10% — but almost always require an application filed before the shortfall becomes final. A condonation request made after results are withheld is a much harder conversation than one filed in week eight.
