Weighted Grade & Final Exam Calculator
Combine assessment percentages using their weights and calculate the final-exam percentage required for a target course grade.
How to use this calculator
First convert each component to a percentage using its own maximum marks. Enter the combined coursework percentage and its share of the overall grade; the remainder is the final-exam weight. This tool models two weighted components. Separate pass requirements, moderation and rounding policies are not included.
Formula and worked example
Overall = coursework % × coursework weight ÷ 100 + final % × (100 − coursework weight) ÷ 100. Required final % = [target × 100 − coursework % × coursework weight] ÷ (100 − coursework weight).
Coursework of 72% weighted at 40% and a final exam of 80% weighted at 60% produce 76.8%. To reach 75% overall, the final must be at least 77%.
What this result does and does not tell you
The calculation uses only the numbers you enter. It does not retrieve institutional rules, predict your actual marks or replace your official transcript. Use the unrounded value when deciding whether a target is met, and check your institution’s rounding and pass requirements.
Does this calculator save my marks?
The new calculator processes inputs in your browser and does not send or save your marks. Reloading the page restores the example values.
