Converting one semester, not your whole degree

SGPA is the credit-weighted grade point average of a single semester. Converting it to a percentage uses the same formula your university applies to CGPA — the arithmetic does not change because the period is shorter. What changes is what the number means: an SGPA percentage describes one semester only, and most forms that ask for a percentage actually want the cumulative figure, which the CGPA to percentage page converts.

There is no national conversion rule. Anna University multiplies by 10. Mumbai University applies (SGPA × 7.1) + 11. The general 10-point convention subtracts 0.75 first and then multiplies by 10, which is the default here because it is the least wrong when the issuing university is unknown. An 8.40 SGPA is therefore 84.00%, 70.64% or 76.50% depending on who is asking.

The ×9.5 factor is a CBSE school-board device and is offered on this page only because students keep looking for it. It was derived from the average marks of high scorers in Classes X and XII, and it has no standing in an engineering examination ordinance. Using it on a placement form inflates your percentage by several points against the figure your college would certify.

What is the formula to convert SGPA to percentage?
It depends on your university. The general 10-point convention is (SGPA − 0.75) × 10. Anna University uses SGPA × 10, Mumbai University uses (SGPA × 7.1) + 11. Select yours above and the working is shown with your own number.
Is 8.5 SGPA a good score?
On the general formula it is 77.50%, which sits in the distinction band at most institutions and clears the 70% or 75% cut-off that many campus recruiters apply.
Can I use ×9.5 for SGPA?
Only if you are converting a CBSE school result. For a university SGPA it overstates the percentage and does not match what your college would certify.
How do I get CGPA from my SGPAs?
Take the credit-weighted average of every semester, using each semester’s total credits as the weight — not the plain average of the SGPA numbers. The SGPA calculator does the per-semester arithmetic from your subjects and credits.
Why does the result truncate instead of rounding?
Because rounding up overstates your result. 76.98% is reported as 76.98%, never as 77%.
