SGPA calculator
SGPA = Σ (grade point × credits) ÷ Σ credits
115.0 ÷ 14 = 8.21
Credits are weighted. Averaging grade points without credits is the most common error in competing tools.
Credits are the whole point
SGPA is a credit-weighted average, not a plain average of grade points. A four-credit core subject moves your SGPA twice as much as a two-credit elective, so the arithmetic mean of your grades is almost never your SGPA. This is the single most common defect in competing calculators.
Multiply each grade point by that subject’s credits, add the products, then divide by total credits. Non-uniform credits are the normal case in an Indian engineering semester, where theory, labs and mandatory courses carry different weights.
Zero-credit audit courses appear on the transcript but do not enter the calculation. Backlog subjects usually enter in the semester they are cleared, at the grade obtained, which is why a cleared backlog can pull an otherwise strong semester down.
CGPA is then the same operation one level up: the credit-weighted average of every semester completed so far, not the average of your SGPAs. Once you have the number, SGPA to percentage converts a single semester and CGPA to percentage converts the cumulative figure.
